Printing onto die cut shapes

Image
Every now and then I have a die cut shape that I want to add journaling to without using my handwriting.  Here’s my little trick to do that. I create a text box in a word document and size it to fit the opening on my die cut. Print your journaling out on a blank piece of printer paper. Use washi tape to attach your die cut over top of the printing on that piece of paper. I hold it up to a bright light to make sure I have it in the right place. You can see that I added lots of tape on the top so that it doesn’t catch when it is fed into the printer.  Run that page through your printer again and voila!  This  works  really well on thinner die cuts. Cardstock weight or less would be best. Anything heavier likely won’t run through a printer.  Thanks for stopping by and have a FANTASTIC day! .

Creating an Interactive Journal Element

Image
Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing an alternate way to create a fold out element in my art journal. I recently shared similar but different instructions to make this on the ECD blog. This time, I started by partially cutting out my paper using the pocket die from set 2211 Shielded Window. The key was to make sure that my die cutting plate was not over the end of the die as you can see in the photo below. This resulted in a partially cut out piece. I trimmed off the loose pieces with my scissors.  My next step was to line up the die with half of the previous cut and tape it down with washi.  Make sure to line up those little notches.  Place this back in your die cutting machine ensuring that the previously cut end is not under your plate, as shown below.  This will create a 3 section piece and I cut two of these.  Trim off the flaps on the top and bottom leaving the notches in place.  Attach the two pieces together using the side tab and decorate as desire...
